The Denali Highway, one of America's remaining truly remote roads, connects the George Parks Highway and Richardson Highways allowing visitors to visit remote Alaska on a graded, summer accessible road while experiencing the beauty of the Last Frontier.
This area of the Denali Highway travels along an esker, a ridge of gravel formed by steams flowing under a glacier, and weaves between several lakes filled with summer birds and edged by wild flowers. One interesting feature is the presence of a Pingo, an earth covered ice hill that comes from a Inuit word for "small hill." Pingos are periglacial landforms which are defined as a "non-glacial" landform or process linked to colder climates.
In order to receive credit for this cache, please email me an estimate of the height and width of this pingo. Please also include a photo the background mountains with the pingo visible in your picture.
Please use good judgement and planning when traveling the Denali Highway. The weather can change quickly and services are remote. Food, water, good tires, and a well maintained vehicle are required. Many car rentals companies DO NOT allow their cars to travel this road. The road surface does vary greatly based on weather conditions and cell phone reception DOES NOT exist along the 130 mile road.
