Geocache Description:

The Denali Series: Landmark Gap

This ammo can cache is located at a scenic view south of Landmark Gap. Landmark Gap is described by BLM as "a glacially-scoured cut in the mountains that formed during an Ice Age more than 10,000 years ago. The Gap has been a caribou migration route and a favorite Indian hunting area in centuries past. The Nelchina caribou herd still uses this area today. The mountain peaks visible through the Gap are McGinnis Peak (11,400') and Mt. Moffit (13,020')." The cache is a short distance down a caribou trail and is hidden to the casual observer by some native vegetation.

This cache was placed as part of a Father's Day 2007 Geocaching Expedition to introduce visitors to the vast and unspoiled scenery of remote Alaska.

Original Contents included a log book and pencil, a small pocket ulu knife, 2006 AK Geocaching pin, and a Green Jeep TB.

Please use good judgement and planning when traveling the Denali Highway. The weather can change quickly and services are remote. Food, water, good tires, and a well maintained vehicle are required. Many car rentals companies DO NOT allow their cars to travel this road. The road surface does vary greatly based on weather conditions and cell phone reception DOES NOT exist along the 130 mile road.
