Geocache Description:

Easy cache in Salcey Forest accessible by flat and level paths or ramps. Part of the first stage involves stairs, but it is not necessary to use the stairs to find the clues to discover the final cache location.

A simple two part cache in ancient Salcey Forest. Those who are not familiar with the forest will find the first location quite surprising.

Park at N52.09.444 W 000.50.404 where there are public toilets, a children's play area, interpretation panels & maps of the forest. You can also get refreshments in the cafe here. There is a parking charge of £1.50 for one hour, or £4 for all day parking which goes towards the upkeep of the public areas within the forest.

This is also a location for a Book Crossing. See (visit link) for more details.

Make your way to the first set of co-ordinates. There are several well made up paths leading there. It is not necessary to leave these paths, climb any fences or enter any restricted areas to reach the co-ordinates.

N 52.09.818

On your way enjoy the Elephant Pond and bridge. The Elephant Pond got its name because during the Second World War, elephants from circuses were used to fell trees in the forest and this is where the elephants bathed at the end of the day.

The forest was served by its own railway station on the Stratford-upon-Avon and Midland Junction Railway until 1908.

Take a steady climb through the trees to reach great views of Northamptonshire and fill in the missing information below to be able to calculate the final cache position which is nearby.

The gradient is A:AB

There are C (number) circular galvanised steel posts supporting the viewing platform

The final cache location is at:

N AC.D(A+B).(C+E)DC
W DDD.AD.CFD
