With these caches we're going to travel into the myths and the history of Greece that has begin 6000 years ago.

3.Mycenaean civilization

Tiryns

About the place : Region with enormous historical and mythological value. It is found in the means of fertile valley of north Nauplion and in distance of 7 km from it.It was one of the more important Mycenaean cities, afterwards Mycenaes, and according to the archaeological discoveries it is lived by prehistoric Season.
Historian Paysanias reports that ancient Tiryns it was founded by their Cyclopes, that built the Citadel of city using enormous blocks of stone. Eminently Cyclopean Walls, part of that they are saved as our days, with their enormous size and the difficulty of their manufacture for season where they were created, they strengthened this fabulous delivery. Ancient they believed that it was creation of beings with supernaturally forces.
Central gate of Citadel is similar with the Gate of Leons of Mycenaes without however the lintel. Except however from the historical and archaeological interest New Tiryns (Tiryntha) it presents interest for the visitor of Argos landscape. It is a modern settlement that is offered for quiet stay but also as starting line for excursions to the all wider region.
Note that Tiryns was recognized as one of the World Heritage Sites in 1999.

Cache Details : The cache is located up to the hill of Profet Ilias from where you have a panoramic view of whole Argolis valley, from Palamidi fortress of Nayplio until Larissa fortress in Argos. The given coordinates are those where begin the road that will bring you up to the hill. For find the cache coordinates you have first to go at the archeological place of Akropolis of Tiryns and count the number of the red columns that there are at the front side of the new building (it is prepares to be the new museum) ahead the parking area. If the answer is :

  • 2 then x=6
  • 4 then x=9
  • 6 then x=7

If you want you can visit the archaeological place, because it is worthwhile for you to see it. It is open daily from 8:00-19:00 and the ticket cost 3 Euro.The cache coordinates are : 37o 35.x1x N, 22o 48.x(x-4)(x-1)E

The cache is a Tupperware box wrapped in a plastic bag and initially contain:

  • declaration in English and Greek
  • Log Book + Pen & Pencil (not for trade)
  • a pc mouse
  • necklace
  • a sticker of Macedonia
  • glass ball
  • postcard of Naxos
  • decorative shiny stones
  • 1 plastic decorative tree
  • a small plastic bull
  • a small car
  • a page marker
Note :Record and keep the number (CSN number) that is written in the first page of the logbook and also in the bottom side of the tuperware. It will be usefull for the next caches of this series.
