Geocache Description:


In de geosite Goudberg in Hoegaarden kun je versteende bomen bekijken. Het zijn overblijfselen van een subtropisch moerasbos dat 54,9 miljoen jaar oud is. Behalve de versteende cipressen uit het vroegere moerasbos, biedt de geosite Goudberg je ook een prachtig overzicht van 55 miljoen jaar evolutie van de ondergrond. Het park bestaat uit één groot openluchtamfitheater waar je een overzicht krijgt van 55 miljoen jaar geologische geschiedenis.

De geosite “Goudberg” is te bezichtigen na afspraak op tel. 016/76.81.86. Tijdens de maanden juni, juli, augustus en september is de site tijdens het weekend geopend van 13.30u tot 17.30u. Wanneer u buiten de openingsuren deze cache doet, volstaat een foto aan het infopaneel.

Om deze cache te mogen loggen, gelieve me via mijn profiel de antwoorden op volgende vragen te mailen en plaats na goedkeuring een foto van je aan de geosite:
- 1 – Waardoor zijn de bomen zo goed bewaard gebleven?
- 2 – Waar ligt Hoegaarden volgens een infobord (titel)?

Hundreds of silicified standing stumps can be discovered within a lignitic horizon near Hoegaarden. 0rganic carbon isotope data reveals that these fossil trees developed in a swampy lowland environment most probably during the Initial Eocene Thermal Maximum at ca. 54,9 Ma.

You can visit the geosite “Goudberg” after on appointment (tel. 016/76.81.86) or during the months of june, july, august and september on weekends, between 01.30 am and 05.30 am. When you visit this cache outside the opening hours, a picture at the info-pannels will do.
