Geocache Description:

Cache is a Military Ammo holder tube.

This cache is placed near a MWD Siphon on a hillside, you can drive very closeby. Once there you can hear thousands of gallons of water flowing under your feet.

This cache is one of a series of 8 placed today by myself and Tassieworfsky.

These caches are along a good 4x4 dirt powerline (mostly) road that goes from the South end of Acoma Trail in Yucca Valley down the hill to Annadale Road in Desert Hot Springs.

We drove down the road (starting at Acoma, in Yucca Valley) in a Nissan 4x4 pickup and were able to drive the route in 2 WD. If we had returned back up the hill using the same route we might have had to shift into 4x4 as the roadway is steep, loose and rutted in a few places. Most of these caches are a short and easy walk from the roadway.

This road is a short passable route down the hill from Yucca valley to DHS that can be used at those times when Hwy 62 is closed down due to a collision, wildfire or other event.

At The bottom of this road is a "Ghost Town" aka a abandoned metropolitan Water District "MWD" construction camp that was built in the 1930's during the construction of the Colorado River Aqueduct. One of the caches is located a hundred feet or so from a "Siphon" where you can hear the "River of Water" flowing through on it's way to the Los Angeles area.

The last and lowest cache is named "MWD Ghost Town" and at this location you can see the walls and foundations of many of the abandoned buildings. Sadly many are covered with Graffiti and shot up. Spent ammunition is everywhere, it looks like a war zone.

On the way down after the last cache in the series there is a steel bar gate across the roadway that has the potential of being closed and locked. Today (Thursday) it was open and we drove on through. You exit this trip on Annadale road which is paved and goes down hill a short distance to Mission Lakes Road and the Mission Lakes Country Club.

You may collect these caches by either going uphill from Mission Lakes (if the gate is open) or by starting at the top at Acoma.

These caches range is size from small to a 50 cal. Ammo can. All but one of the caches contain swag. We did not place any Travel Bugs, Geocoins or FTF ribbons in the caches. (We just didn't have any available). Some of the larger caches contain a good collection of swag such as a digital cam.

This is a remote area with high canyon walls, don't expect your cell phone to work. Don't count on seeing any one else or any services. Remember to bring plenty of water and have a good spare tire and jack in your 4X4. I don't think this is a safe trail for a two wheel drive vehicle. Downhill might be okay, certainly not uphill.
