Geocache Description:

This search takes you to a charming, historical spot that is probably unknown to all but a handful of Eastern Ontarians. When we stumbled upon it, we realized that it was crying out for a cache!

The site was apparently neglected and overlooked for many years, but it is now being lovingly tended. When you read the history, you can’t help but be awed by the tenacity and perseverance of those who pioneered in this area. Why here? What must life have been like for those who lived here? And the inevitable geocaching question: Who knew?

The closest parking is at N44 43.050, W076 24.886. NOTE: The parking area is NOT the waypoint! The POSTED COORDINATES are for the one-and-only waypoint. From there, it is a short stroll to the final cache location. Do watch your footing between the waypoint and the cache. Several small trees have been stumped (and marked with day-glow paint), but caution is still advised.

Upon reaching the waypoint, you will find two years mentioned. Take the most recent year, and call it ABCD. Then, determine the digital root of ABCD, and call that E.

A=________ B=________ C=________ D=________ E=________

Your new coordinates for the cache are:

N 44 43. D, E+A, E+A

W 076 24.B, C-A-A, E

The container is a plastic nut-jar, camo-taped. It was scrubbed thoroughly, but if you have nut issues, you might want to bring a friend who doesn’t, to actually handle the cache and its contents. When hidden, it contained log, pencil, manifesto, booty for the FTF (clipped to the log), folding scissors, shell necklace, bunjee cord, spirit-animal stone (my fave), fold-out kiddies’ book, parrot key-chain, red wire clip, leather bracelet, picture-frame “Grandma pin.”

Many thanks to bob&lynne for beta-testing the cache – not once, but twice.

Enjoy your search!
