Geocache Description:

Like an ancient Roman ruin, two bridge abutments indicate there must have once been a bridge here over Sawmill Creek. A bridge troll is guarding a cache.

If there was a road between McCarthy Road and the Junction Avenue/O-Train crossing, then it must have crossed Sawmill Creek near the cache location.

If there are abutments, there must have been bridge.

If there was a bridge, there must have been a troll.

If someone set up a covert operations secret base in the area, then the troll must have moved to the other side for peace and quiet.

If the south abutment was buried in deep brush and woods, then you might want to find the north abutment first.

If you found the north abutment over Sawmill Creek, using a nice paved pathway, then how would you get to the south-side abutment?

A troll is guarding the cache near the eastern end of that abutment. He does not like the skeletons of the automobiles and truck frames in the vehicle graveyard to the west.

To visit the abutments, cross only at the official O-Train and VIA protected crossings. If you use the Airport Parkway for access to the south side, be very careful of speeding vehicles and crossing the Parkway. If you wish to cross the creek on your own, be careful of possible strong currents, mud and steep banks.

(After placing the cache I found a 1920's Ottawa topo map and discovered that the bridge actually was on a lane that extended roughly south from Junction. It only went to a farmhouse or something around Cromwell. So it did not go as far as McCarthy, but it makes for a good story. The Cromwell/ Riverside Park subdivision was laid out in the mid-1960's and (visit link) shows it was still there in 1965)

(The 2013 construction of the new multiuse pathway along the Airport Parkway will make this cache easier and safer to visit)
