The Apex Mystery Cache
tnt06: I checked on this one this week and found it in good order. Not moved, mostly dry and not disturbed by neighborhood hoodlums. I found that there have been signs posting around the part of the park that I hid the cache has "Nature Preserve" or something like that and not to disturb this area. So, out of respect for that, I'm putting this one away. I think most of the local cachers that enjoy this kind of challenge has done it. I may try and replace this with an Earthcache sometime. For those of you who enjoyed this challenge, I'm working up another one, so stay tuned.

Ever since I've found some of the triangulation and projection
caches around here, I've been trying to come up with another way to
have cachers figure out the final coordinates. This cache is my
attempt to provide a different challenge. The actual hide of the
cache is not too difficult, if you get in the general vicinity you
should be able to find it with a little searching; the 2nd hint
should help a good bit when you get there.
The listed coordinates are bogus. The cache is located at The Apex.
One of the other points for the base of the triangle is Ground Zero
- 72704 (If you have no clue as to what this is, try finding the
cache Ground Zero - 72762 by Fearless Four, it'll be a good
introduction.) The other point you will have to solve for by
answering questions concerning apexes.
The area of the triangle is 0.2140635 sq. mi. The bearing from the
apex to GZ 72704 is 134.006°. There is no need to go to GZ 72704 as
it would be dangerous to get to and quite unnecessary. Nor is there
any need to go to the other base coordinate as it is on private
property.
The other base point is given by N 36° 0A.B25 W 094° 12.C1D
Answer the following questions to discover the other base point.
1. What is the apex of the Great Pyramid of Giza (in feet)? A = 1st
number
2. What is the apex of Pike's Peak in Colorado (in feet)? B = 2nd
number
3. What is the apex of "The Pyramid" in Memphis, TN (in stories)? C
= 2nd number raised by the (to the power of) 1st number (hint:
multiply the 2nd number by itself a number of times equal to the
1st number)
4. The apex of this pyramid like nanostructure is on the order of
4-10 nanometers. (additional info: confines the movement of
electrons in all 3 directons; falls into the category of 0D
semiconductor nanostructres) Quantum _______ ? (Use the plural form
of word) D = number of leters in 2nd word
Just for all of those scared of math, no trigonometry is needed to
find this cache. You should be able to solve using primarily a GPSr
and maybe a calculator; you don't NEED any fancy plotting programs.
But if you would like to be more accurate, check out a free program
called Fizzy Calc and a website called
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/calculators. I would like for this to
be a coin and/or jeep exchange only. Just sign the log if you don't
have either to swap.
If anything is not clear in the instructions or you have any
suggestions on how to improve the cache, please let me know.
Congratulations to HSJD19 for a super fast FTF!
