This Earthcache is a few yards from the road along part of the Clwydian Way footpath. You can see the site from the road, but if you want to get a bit closer, you have to cross a stile and walk along a public footpath.
Slow moving rivers wander, they don’t rush. And as they go, they form loops and S shapes and double back on themselves as they meander slowly long.
But occasionally, when the river is in flood, the river takes a short cut across one of the loops and forms a new, more direct channel.
This leaves behind a U-shaped mini-lake that is no longer part of the mainstream. These mini lakes are called oxbows.
This Earthcache is a bit unusual because it is a completely circular oxbow, forming an O rather than a U. But you can see a U-shaped one on the other side of the bridge, 100 metres upstream.
To prove you have visited this cache, please take a photo of your GPS with the oxbow in the background, and answer this question. Using your GPS: what is the approximate diameter of the O-shaped oxbow? E-mail the answer - do not include it in you log!
