This design is a fix to a complicated and expensive electronic version that failed constantly. I spent over $200 on prior vesions of this one and it often did not work for geocachers. Perhaps when I have time to engineer a more robust design, I'll return it as originally intended. But for now, at least this cache is active.
Named after the technically multi disciplined quantum chemist and biochemist Linus Pauling.
PLEASE DO NOT TRESPASS IN TO SPRINKLER HEADS.
PLEASE WATCH FOR MUGGLES AT EACH END OF THE PATH. DON"T PRESS ON IF THEY ARE AROUND!
#5 of 7 caches I am placing in honor of both of Pacholik's event caches on 7/7/7.
7-7-7 Event - South OC 7:00am by Pacholik (GC12YP7)
7-7-7 South OC-Irvine 7:00pm by Pacholik (GC13E4J)
This is #3 of 3 caches in a series named after the streets in this business park.
Linus Carl Pauling (February 28, 1901 – August 19, 1994) was an American quantum chemist and biochemist, also acknowledged as a crystallographer, molecular biologist, and medical researcher. He is the only person to win two Nobel prizes that were not shared with another recipient. He was almost the first to discover the "double-helix" of DNA. He worked on affordable electric cars in the '50's. (see the Henney Kilowatt—the first speed-controlled electric car. See Wikipedia.com)
It has been claimed that Pauling was one of the greatest thinkers and visionaries of the millennium, along with Galileo, Newton, and Einstein.
On Jeopardy, he will most likely be noted for his controversial theories and opinions on the benefits of taking massive doeses of vitamin C and how colds and cancer can be curbed. (unfortunately not true, and unfortunately becoming something he is more known for.)
