This cache is located on a small spit of land in the Keswick Marsh. Parking is available at 44 11.855N 79 28.775W ( UTM 621 500 4894 940 )
The cache is best reached by small watercraft (canoe, kayak, small boat) which you can launch from the parking area. The cache is located less than 500 meters from the launch and the route is sheltered by a breakwall so wind should not pose a problem. Boots would be recommended in spring and summer depending upon the water levels the area may be somewhat swampy.
This is a themed cache with items related to fishing.
The cache was initially stocked with various fishing related items (lures, floats, jigs etc) Don't leave any worms! The cache is located in a small blue olive barrel.
While visiting the cache, bring your fishing rod and enjoy the fishing right by the parking area or venture out into the marsh. There is excellent fishing in the area for Bass, Pike, Perch, Crappie, Catfish and Carp. Be sure to check the regulations and open seasons first. In the winter time, you can walk to the cache from the parking area and also join the many icefishermen that frequent the bay.
This area is also excellent for bird and wildlife observation. On the spit of land containing the cache, you will see many wood duck nesting boxes, as well as other bird houses. Directly south from the cache site, you will see an osprey nesting platform in the marsh. There are many migratory waterfowl that visit the area in spring and fall. Apart from the standard Canada Geese and Mallards, you may also frequently observe Great Blue Herons, Bitterns, Coots, Mergansers, and Kingfishers. You may also see beaver, muskrat, mink, raccoons, skunks, porcupine, and possibly even deer. If you continue in your craft a little further west of the cache, following the shore, you will come to a narrow opening in the cat tails that is a fish spawning channel which is fun to explore in a canoe. A bit further west along the shore there is another brand new spawning channel. This one does not dead end so you can loop back to to the lake.
