Langley Pond Park, off of U.S. 1, in Aiken County
In conjunction with UOTrackers' Mega-mini event later in the day, we wanted to sponsor an early morning CITO in Aiken County.
Langley Pond is a Southeastern best kept secret. The man-made pond plays host to some of the most premier rowing events in the country. It is an ideal location for boating, fishing, jet skiing, and all around fun. It is a listed site along the SC National Heritage Corridor. Located off the Aiken/Augusta Highway on Langley Dam Rd. Clicke here for map Facilities include a ramp for small craft, limited parking, bank fishing, restrooms, large picnic shelter, grills, concession stand (seasonal) and children's play area. Geocachers have forged a great partnership with Aiken County Parks and Recreation, and we plan to have several CITOs over the next few months to show our appreciation.
Geocachers should meet at the posted coordinates at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2007. The CITO will last until around 9:30, giving everyone a chance to make it to Aiken for food and racing.
For those with other scheduled obligations that day, please feel free to come for any portion of the event.
We will provide garbage bags and drinking water. Hope to see everyone there.
DIRECTIONS:
From: Columbia, South Carolina - Traveling WEST on I-20
Take EXIT 18 (Aiken, SC) - turn LEFT at Stop sign (this will be SC Highway #19)
Travel approximately 6 miles to Highway #118 - turn RIGHT onto Highway #118
Travel approximately 6 miles to the Stop Light at US Highway #1
TURN RIGHT ONTO US Highway #1
Travel approximately 4.5 miles to Langley Dam Road
Turn LEFT at light onto Langley Dam Road (Reid's Grocery Store will be just before the turn; a cemetery will be across the road to the RIGHT)
Take the first fork to the LEFT - the park will be on your LEFT
From: Interstate 20 - Traveling EAST from Augusta/Atlanta, Georgia
Cross over the state line from Georgia to South Carolina
Take EXIT #1 for North Augusta, South Carolina - at Stop sign, turn RIGHT (this will be Martintown Road)
Travel approximately 5 miles and exit to travel EAST onto US Highway #1 (go over the overpass and around the onramp) - turn LEFT at Stop sign
Go a short distance (about 100 feet) to the next Stop sign and turn RIGHT (this will be US Highway #1)
Travel approximately 6.5 miles to Langley Dam Road
Turn RIGHT at the light onto Langley Dam Road (Reid's Grocery Store will be just after the turn; a cemetery will be across the road to the LEFT)
Take the first fork to the LEFT - the park will be on your LEFT
From Augusta traveling Highway 1, turn right on Langley Dam Road (right before Reid's), and from Aiken traveling Highway 1, turn left on Langley Dam Road (just after Reid's)
