Abe Lincoln Didn't Sleep Here Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

dad2jnk: A great piece of history, but it is too difficult to keep a cache here. I may use this as part of a multi some day.

Thanks to all who enjoyed the cache.

Geocache Description:

A quick cache along a forgotten route. It is easiest to exit I-72 at IL-47 north, then travel west on the first county road.

Before Abraham Lincoln was president, before he served in the US Congress, and before he was elected to the Illinois Legislature, he was a lawyer on the 8th Judicial Circuit in central Illinois. The judicial band that included Judge David Davis and a handful of journeyman lawyers would ride the circuit from Springfield to as far as Metamora, Paris, and Shelbyville, Illinois.

In 1922, the Daughters of the American Revolution erected guideposts along this route so that it would be remembered for future generations. More about the 8th Judicial Circuit and the guideposts marking its route can be found at: (visit link)

As you visit the cache, try to imagine this road in the early 1800s where bobcats and hawks were more numerous than people and the interstate was prairie grass as tall as your horse. Also, thank the people who had the foresight to preserve the trail.

This road can be busy at times, so please be careful. Cache is a small waterproof container with cammo tape. It contains a log book and room for smaller items and a couple of trackables.
