"The Redways form an extensive network of shared-use
paths passing through all the beautiful parks, each and every
estate, and into the city centre itself. They are for use by
pedestrians and cyclists of all ages and levels of experience,
including people with prams, pushchairs and those in
wheelchairs."
As such, the Redways provide an ideal Geocaching
highway!
The parking for the cache is in Furzton, but the cache trail
itself begins in Knowlhill, and continues through the National
Bowl's surrounding. The Bowl is a massive outdoor venue which can
hold 65,000 people and has played host to such artists as David
Bowie, Michael Jackson, Metallica, Bon Jovi and Robbie Williams.
The grounds around the Bowl offer a great spot for an impromptu
picnic or a relaxing walk during your lunch break.
There are various local parking areas, but the most convenient
off-road parking can be found in Shirwell Crescent, Furzton -
either at the lake parking (N52° 00.971 W00° 46.150) or at the
Premier Hotel and Pub (N52° 01.021 W00° 46.047). From either
location, join the Redway running around the lake. Head clockwise
around the lake till the road forks (N52° 01.022 W00° 45.992). Take
the northerly fork and continue along the Redway through the
underpass into the Bowl surroundings. Continue on through a second
underpass and then up the hill on the Knowlhill side of the
underpass to your first clue.
Your first clue is a curious location with a large number of
manhole covers. (N52° 01.174 W00° 46.097) How many manhole covers
can you see?
Clue 1: AB
Head NW along the Redway and through the Underpass under Grafton
Way (N 52° 01.185 W 000° 46.006). Continue along the Redway and
through the Underpass under Watling Street. The lamppost (N 52°
01.098 W 000° 45.986) on the right as you exit the underpass has a
number on it in the middle of several letters.
Clue 2: C
You now have all the required clues. To calculate the location
of the cache, use the above numbers in the following formula:
Final Location:
Let X = AB
Let Y = C+A
Let Z = 2*Y
N52° 01.A(B-C)Z W00° 45.(X-Y)(X-Z)(Y+Z)
You are searching for a camouflaged micro-SD memory chip
container about 4x3x1cm (about the size of a two £2 coin) – So
please bring a pencil!
Please be aware that the cache is in the open and
cyclist often travel this portion of the Redway giving you very
little time to look circumspect! You may also find this cache
difficult if you are short - so make sure to drag someone tall
along!
And there you go! Good Luck and Happy Hunting!
