Trofy Phishing Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
Trophy Section: The Truckee River and diversion ditches above
the I-80 bridge, upstream from Crystal Peak Park in Verdi, to the
California state line where the limit is 2 trout and 10 mountain
whitefish. Minimum size for trout is 14 inches. Only artificial
lures with single barbless hooks may be used.
This cache is for the exchanging of Truckee River trout flies used
in the trophy section of the river. Please file or crimp the barb
of any fly left in the cache. If you take a fly, please leave a fly
and note in your log what was exchanged and any “fish stories”
you’ve had while fishing the river with that particular fly.
The fly I left is a black size 6 gold bead-headed stonefly nymph.
This fly tends to not get may hits from the smaller fish and is
best used in the deep pools downstream of large boulders in the
river.
There is a small parking area off Old Highway 40 at N39.30.774
W119.59.853. Park there and enjoy the walk and wildlife to the
cache. You will not need to get wet or cross any fences if you take
the nature trail from this parking area. This cache can easily
become a “4 Star” terrain if you choose to try it from a different
direction, which is not advised.
Access: The Truckee River has been designated a “navigable water”
which means that the state of Nevada owns the bed of the Truckee up
to the “present ordinary permanent high water mark”. Basically,
this means that the bed of the river is public land, however,
individuals may not cross private property to get to the river.
The cache container is not waterproof, so please make sure the log
is baggy’d correctly and leave the cache as found. Extra baggies
were left in the cache.
