Mertes Slough Traditional Cache
annakido: I have decided that since there is now an EarthCache at Mertes Slough there is no longer need for a guard rail cache, expecially one as precariously close to traffic as this one, to draw people down there.

This one is located just before turning into Mertes Slough refuge.
Mertes Slough is a diverse and picturesque spot to explore and commune with nature. This micro is on the way into this beautiful spot.
It is illegal to place geocaches on Refuge property, this is why the cache itself is located along the highway and not on the way in or in a scenic spot on the Refuge itself.
This Refuge is one of those required for the "Tour the Wildlife Refuges" puzzle geocache. And now it is the home of an EarthCache.
The high terrain rating is attributed to complaints that it is along a busy, high-speed (50 MPH) highway. Though the shoulder is relatively wide, do not attempt if you consider it to be too dangerous. Instead, drive down into the Refuge and visit, and email me something you see. Then feel free to log the "find", as the point of this geocache is to bring people to the nearby Refuge, not place people at risk just to sign a piece of paper (though by definition that requirement is what makes it a "legal" geocache).
You are looking for a camo-covered pill bottle, small enough to tuck in nicely and large enough for geocoins or other small, flat trade items.
