Ken Lockwood Gorge, Califon, NJ off the Columbia Trail of the
Hunterdon County Parks System.
There are two ways to get to this cache. The easy but long way is
to enter the Columbia Trail where a walking stick shield, displayed
at the entrance to the trail in High Bridge and at the other
entrance to the park in Tewksbury, is available for visitors that
complete the seven mile trail. Access the trail in High Bridge on
Main Street across from the library or in Tewksbury at Vernoy Road
and the South Branch. The trail crosses the South Branch of the
Raritan River at Ken Lockwood Gorge where the cache lays behind a
rock in a green ammo container. There are small rocks around and
limbs on top of the cache. It contains some Disney stuff among
other things. The best fun way to get there with little walking
(under .25 mile) but requires a little climbing (there is a black
nylon rope to help you up), is to enter the road which becomes a
dirt road on Raritan River Rd., Califon. Very scenic drive with the
South Branch of the Raritan River to your side. Just don't get too
close to the edge or you may drive right into the river. Park (N40°
41.853' W74° 52.344') under the defunct Central Jersey train
trestle bridge and find the path to ascend your climb up to the old
trestle. The GPS bounces all around when you get to the cache area
so you may want to use the hints.
