Geocache Description:

Historic Cache

*** The cache is not located at the listed location ***

This waypoint marks the
historical location
of the very first cache placed in
South Australia.

The oldest active cache in South Australia at June 2007 is
Riverland Geocache by Sam Morgan of team Madcat
which was hidden on 01/01/2001.

However it is not the first cache placed in South Australia that honour goes to -

Sandy Creek by Karl Gramp
which was hidden on 17/12/2000.

Their team called karl and sharyn along with other South Australian pioneering teams like Alex, Team GeoCoopers and Madcat laid the foundation for caching in this state in December 2000 and the early months of 2001.

By the end of February 2001 there were 10 caches across the state and by the end of the year that number had risen to nearly 80.

Here we are 6 years later and more than 2000 caches have been placed across the state.

There is more to tell of this tale and I didnt personally know Karl so I will leave it for other teams from that first year of Geocaching like Alex, Team Geocoopers, Madcat, gahpee, Team Piggy and Liz and Bruce to share with us their experience of that time.

So even if you don't do the cache but knew Karl please post a message so this period in South Australia caching history will not be forgotten.

Thank you Karl. You have a special place in this states history.

How to locate the cache which is situated 35.4 kilometres from the initial co-ordinates at another archived cache placement by this team.

karl and sharyn profile lists one other cache they placed that has been archived.
The cache will be found at that location.
Research karl and sharyn profile on www.geocaching.com to locate the cache.

Reading the logs for this other archived cache reveal that it didn’t survive long and was only found by Alex and Team GeoCoopers.
However if you look up the logs for cache GC33F you will see a good outcome was established in the end.
