The location of this cache will bring you through numerous types of landscapes. From meadows to rock cliffs, from old farmsteads to old Indian hunting grounds.
You will hopefully also see many forms of wildlife that lives throughout this area. If you are "lucky" you might see coyote, bear, bobcat, mink and even fishers that are some of the more secretive residents.
The gray sandstones of the area formed some 360-400 million years ago when the Catskill region was a shallow sea filling up with clay and silt washing off the high mountains to the east. The sandstones have now been uplifted high above sea level, but the layers formed in a shallow sea are still visible. Fossils of prehistoric sealife are often found in these areas.
This is a 4 stage multicache.
The first stage will bring you to a rocky area. There are a couple swampy areas here that we found numerous types of amphibians and some interesting insects.
The second stage brings you to another rocky area. If you notice the piles of rocks scattered around the woods. I was told that these were used by the native Americans as hunting blinds. They would use them as cover while the other tribe members would push the wildlife down the mountain into this pass. Hopefully, providing a successful hunt.
The third stage brings you to .... you guessed it more rocks near a scenic area. I won't ruin the surprise. Be careful of snakes.
The end stage is not much further.
Minimal Bushwacking is required until the end where the trail seems to disappear.
Each stage is a micro except for the end which is a .50 caliber ammo can STUFFED with goodies.
There is a nice FTF prize and a Geowoodstock 5 trinket.
