Geocache Description:

This cache is in the Red River Gorge section of the Daniel Boone National Forest.

This cache is located on a section of Rough Trail, the longest continous trail in the Red River Gorge area. The best parking is at the trail head off of 715. Though at this point the GPS will tell you you are only 1/4 mile away BEWARE. "Kentucky's Land of the Arches" trail guide lists this trail as moderate to strenous (primarily because the trail drops 300 feet to the ravine floor). This is a true back pack trail - ie narrow & uneven.

That said the trail passes through (what we think) is some of the prettiest scenery in the park. Passing a small waterfall and numerous rock shelters while it follows a small stream. Allow 45 minutes each way.

Container is an Ammo can with a pretty good seal, but please still put things into a plastic bag. Since this is a Back Packers Cache we would ask that you replace it with back packing type items (ex: poncho, compass, bandaids, bootlaces, etc). But please no food!

Cache has been refurbished & is now located a little further on down the trail from the previous location. Because this part of the trail is at the bottom of the ravine, and signal strength (even on a clear day w/ bare trees) is always an issue, the spoiler is now a true SPOILER. Only decrypt it if you want some pretty straight answers on how to find it. Cache now contains: a travel bug (appropriately a jeep), small stapler, $20(Canadian), compass, and some other smaller trinkets for the cachers with kids. I realize that this cache will never get alot of lookers, but I hope that the ones who do come appreciate the beauty that you often miss driving by on the ridges to the other points of interest. Happy hunting!
