Frewville doth reek of other times, a passed on age of yore,
Of our Anglo-Saxon ancestry, seen in roof, and fence and door,
If I’ve seen a place quite like it, I don’t remember anymore.
In my mind I see them working, while an old town clock strikes IX,
Those venerable old sages, if the weather’s poor or fine,
Like ancient Egyptian slave types, even whilst it’s dinner time!
It’s not hard to see them out at work, and I feel a little guilt
When I see their work in stone and wood, and all the things they built
With only stuff they hath; reels, wheels and skills, not tricks and gilt.
These folks, I think you’ll find, were well worth their weight in gold,
And the things we hath re-engineered are not as good, I’m told.
Yet “they” have a terse vendetta ‘gainst the things that are “too old”.
But this place remains; to me it’s even something quite sublime,
It maketh a perfect hiding place, if it’s a cacher’s event time.
And wouldn’t it be brilliant if our logs were all in rhyme?
