The cache is not located at the above listed coordinates. They take you approximately to the county line. You must first figure out the puzzle to Modoc County to find the REAL coordinates. This is the next in my series of county line caches. Safe parking is available for this micro sized treasure.
Over the past few years now I have traveled throughout the State with a new perspective. Not like I used to… before I would fly through little burgs and towns without taking a second look. I have always traveled for work but never took the time to “see” where I was going. I would hit a town do my work and go back to the hotel and sit in my room clicking the clicker until the wee hours of the morning.
Now, every new town I pass through is an awakening. I thrive on the new treasures I see… monuments I have whizzed by a hundred times in my life are now new nuggets of knowledge, vista points I passed without a blink are postcard images burned in my mind, and side streets of towns are secret treasures that only non tourists find. Geocaching has made me stop and smell the roses.
Hopefully, this little puzzle will help enlighten you on the County of Modoc and maybe make you “stop and smell the roses” too.

A = This city is the Modoc County Seat. Convert the first letter of the name of this city to its numerical counterpart for (A).
B = The Lava Beds National Monument is the site of the largest concentration of lava tube caves in the United States. It was established as a United States National Monument on November (B)1, 19(B)5.
C = Bloody Point is the location of one of the bloodiest massacres of emigrants ever known on the Oregon Trail. It occurred in 1850 when Modoc Indians killed over 90 men, women, and children in a surprise attack. The following year another large party narrowly escaped the same fate, and the Indians succeeded in killing several smaller parties here. This spot is registered as California State Historical Landmark “NO. (C) BLOODY POINT”.

E = Modoc County was formed when Governor Newton Booth signed an Act of the California Legislature on February 17, 187(E). Land for the county was taken from the eastern part of Siskiyou County.

Fun Tidbit of Additional Information:
The county derives its name from the Native American Modoc people, who lived at the Klamath River headwaters. One historian suggests that the word modoc means "the head of the river." Another states that the word is derived from the Klamath word moatakni meaning "southerners," i.e., the people living south of the Klamath tribe.
In the beginning, Modoc was a part of the Utah Territory, and then transferred into the Nevada Territory when it was created. When Nevada became a state, Modoc County was placed within the boundaries of California, becoming a part of Shasta County
