The Goondocks were where The Goonies played and had their adventures. In my childhood years these were my Goondocks. We spent countless days in here chasing neighborhood legends and myths. There were jungles, swamps, hidden forts and buried treasure...exactly the kind of things a geocacher would love. This series is our way of bringing the adventures to all of you.

The legend goes that two old turn-of-the-century fishermen robbed one of the merchant boats shipping goods on the Merrimack River. They fled to the Goondocks to hide from the local sheriff and bury the loot. The authorities looked for days but the fisherman were never found or heard from again.

This cache is off the trail leading into the Goondocks. It's where the fisherman first ran into the woods to hide. A large posse chased them, but the many winding paths confused them and they lost the trail.

Inside the cache are a few pirate related items and the logbook. Ideally cachers will try and keep the theme going. Have fun and be sure to mark the parking coordinates. We'd hate for you to meet the same end as the ill-fated fisherman.
