Groom Creek Eclipse Traditional Cache

In the forests south of Prescott, at 7100 feet. Reachable via a good trail, but requires 2.5 miles of hiking up a slight-to-moderate uphill. Coordinates moved slightly on 3/24/2017.
The best way to reach this cache is to park at the trailhead for the Groom Creek Loop Trail, trail #307, at N 34 27.881, W 112 26.448. From U.S. 89 in Prescott, turn south on Mount Vernon road, which becomes the Senator highway, a 2-lane paved road; go about 6 miles to this trailhead. From here, take the left fork trail (ie., go clockwise) and hike about 2 1/2 miles to this cache. This is an intermediate-level hike, on a good trail, but it will be a cardiovascular workout, with about 750 feet of elevation gain; the cache is at about 7100 feet altitude.
Cache is now approximately 40 feet NE up off the trail from the large hollowed out stump which USED to hold the cache prior to 2017. It is in an outcropping of rocks, covered well with other rocks and some sticks to protect it from the elements and from critters. Watch for approaching hikers before retrieving and replacing the cache.
Cache container is a small metal box about the size of a hand.
Continue on to the summit of Spruce Mountain for a fine view of the surrounding area, and additional cache finds. It is also possible to follow the directions for the "Spruce Mountain Lookout" cache, take the Isabella Trail (#377) and 307 trail from Potato Patch to Frieza's cache, then descend about 6/10 mile on the 307 trail to this cache.
Happy hunting!
