Geocache Description:

Bah-bom-bah-bom Bah-bom-bah-bom...
As the table turns, so do the trains of our lives

Susanna and Bob stand by the old turntable
Susanna: Bob, you are a great train engineer.
Bob: Susanna, I know. Susanna: But Bob, I don't love you.
Bob: Why not, Susanna? Is it Thomas?
Susanna: Yes, Bob. I love Thomas!
Bob: But why? You said I'm a great train engineer, Susanna?
Susanna: That's just it, Bob. You don't need anyone.
Bob: But I need you, Susanna!
Susanna: Thomas already has my heart, Bob. I can't give it away again.
Bob: But Susanna, there can't be anything between you and Thomas! He's a tank engine!
Susanna: I know, Bob. Everyone says it won't work. But if anyone can make it work, we can!

A little about the turntable: When steam locomotives were still in wide use, many railroads needed a way to turn the locomotives around for return trips as their controls were often not configured for extended periods of running in reverse and in many locomotives the top speed was lower in reverse motion. (Resources from : Wikipeadia)

At the Warrenton end an air operated turntable was constructed to turn the locomotives using compressed air from the locomotive's air brake system. Both passenger and freight services were provided at a depot built at the west end of the line in Warrenton. Passenger service ended in 1941 and by the mid 1980s the line was shortened to 5 miles in length to Casanova and continues to serve a stone quarry that ships by rail as needed. (Resources from : Northern Southern Railway Website)

This turntable was uncovered when the walking path was created for the Warrenton Branch Greenway. It had been abandoned and covered by the railroad in 1951 when they started making engines that could run in both directions. This is a neat little place to add to your tour of Warrenton along with the caboose that is nearby.
