It is almost impossible to determine the center of an irregular
formation such as the outline of state borders. However in the
simplified term one can determine the "weight center" of the plane.
So one can also determine the Geometric Centre of Slovenia
(Geometricno Središce Slovenije - GEOSS). This
has been done by GEOSS
Society of Slovenia, which looks after the area of
GEOSS.
The area is quite interesting and deserves a cache.
Access
The wider and narrower
areas of Geoss are located slightly less than 40km from Slovenia’s
capital, Ljubljana. The area does not have regular bus lines. The
easiest approach is by motor vehicles. You can reach it from three
sides:
-
The easiest approach by
motor vehicles from Ljubljana is by the road leading along the Sava
River towards Litija. There is a signpost at Spodnji Hotic that
directs visitors towards Vace. We follow the signs and reach a
small settlement of Slivna along the local road passing through
Vace Geometric Centre of Slovenia, which is approximately 200m
away.
-
You can also take a
motorway from Ljubljana to Maribor. To reach Geoss, you have to
leave it at the exit Krtina and proceed through Moravce towards
Kandrše where you take a right turn toward Vace.
-
Other option is an approach
from the motorway, if you are coming from direction of Maribor. You
have to take the exit at Trojane. Than head towards Zagorje ob
Savi. In Medijske Toplice, take a right turn towards Moravce and
than turn left towards Vace at Kandrše.
Once you reach the top, the signposts directs you towards the
Geometric Centre of Slovenia.
GEOSS
Constituent Parts
Of the constituent parts of
Geoss the most important is the
GEOSS memorial marker, a
beautifully shaped sturdy rectangular column comprising: engraved
corners of the sky with inscribed international symbols, a verse
from the national anthem, a list of the sponsors who made the
erection of the memorial marker possible and the data on the
location.
In the immediate vicinity
of the memorial marker on the south side, the three markers are
arranged in a straight line:
two crests – the
historic (since 1991) and the present crest of the Republic of
Slovenia, and a pedestal
with two plates; the top one bearing the inscription »We live on
and are masters on our own land«, erected on 14 September 1989
(before independence); and the bottom plate bearing the dates which
marks the independence day (25 June 1991), the admittance day of
the Republic of Slovenia to the United Nations organization (22.
May 1992) and its accession to the European Union (1 May
2004).
On the north side the GEOSS
marker A Monument to the
Patriot is located. It was erected by the Union of Veterans of
the War for Slovenia at the cultural event in 2003. The Monument to
the Patriot supplements the symbolic heritage of the Geoss memorial
marker and rounds off Slovenias endeavours for
independence.
Also on the north side a
linden tree (lime), the
symbol of Sloveneness (and Vace), has been planted. It has grown to
a mighty tree.
The
task
The cache has only two
stages. One is the area of GEOSS and second one is the cache
area. To find the cache you have to do one homework and than
you have to research the GEOSS area. Basic math will lead
you to the cache.
Find following/Najdite
sledece:
To calculate the location of the cache use a following
formula:
N 46° 07.(A-B)(C-D)(E-F)
E 014°48.(A+G)(H+I)(F+J)
Now just go for it. After you find it place it in exactly the
same well hidden position.
If you will get thirsty and hungry after search you can find a nice
restaurant with a good food in the vicinity.
