In the 1990s the City of Mequon was planning to create a large family park on the east side of the city. Local residents felt that it would be better to protect the natural habitat that was already there, and they worked with the city to create the Grasslyn Nature Preserve. Today the City of Mequon works together with a group of the local residents to maintain the preserve. Within the nature preserve you will find a number of different plants and animals, and you will see areas where there are new plantings of native trees.
This is the first cache that we have placed. It is a small black waterproof box hidden within 10 feet of a path. Because this cache is located on a nature preserve, we ask everyone to respect the natural condition of the environment. Please use the parking on Grasslyn Road at:

The entrance to the preserve is located nearby. You can reach the cache by using the paths through the preserve. Please do not remove or disturb any plants or animals, and take all trash with you when you leave. Dogs are allowed if they are on a leash. The park is open dawn until dusk.
Permission to place this cache was received from the group of local residents who maintain the preserve. This was done in consultation with the City of Mequon Parks Department.
