Geocache Description:

Ticks are a persistent source of annoyance for all who venture into the woodlands of New Jersey.

We hope this cache will provide you with an enjoyable hike and caching experience, as well as a source of useful information. After visiting the website below and completing this cache, you will have become, a bonifide "Tickologist".

Match the Tick with its name for the North coordinates and the Tick (Vector) with the disease it may carry, for the West coordinates.

North coordinates: N 40° 44. A B C
  • Deer (Black-Legged) Tick (Ixodes scapularis) - 6
  • Dog Tick (Dermocenter variabilis) - 1
  • Lone Star Tick (Amblyomma americanum) - 2
West coordinates: W 074° 17. A B C
  • Lyme Disease - 9
  • Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis - 8
  • Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever - 7

The cache is an Ammo can that contains:

  • Cache Specific Geopins
  • "The Tick" figures
  • Deer
  • Log Book and Pencils

The listed coordinates are for suggested parking near the Dog Park on Crest Drive off South Orange Ave. From this area, the change in elevation to the Cache site is minimal. Enter at the wooden gate near the listed coordinates and begin on Crest road, a trail that parallels the paved bicycle and pedestrian path (Crest Drive). Any of several branching trails will take you within 150 yards of the cache site. From there you will have to bushwack the remaining distance. The cache site is a typical hide and should be easily found. However, because of variable GPSr reception the cache can also be identified by its guardian and protector, "THE TICK". Since his TV show was cancelled, this is the best job he could get.

P.S. Don't TICK off the nearby Deer!

Please RE-HIDE the Ammo can so that it is not visible to the casual observer!
