La Sierra Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TrekNTerry: I'm going to archive this one. It's had a good run even though it's been in three or four different places and has been muggled several times. This opens up the trail head area for a potential hide by myself or someone else.

Geocache Description:

This is a tupperware sized container that's about a 1-2 minute walk from the La Sierra Drive Trailhead in Chino Hills

The La Sierra Drive trailhead is located near the corner of La Sierra Drive and Monteverde in Chino Hills. Coordinates are N 34 00.467 W 117 45.600.

At ground zero, you'll have a view of part of the Rancho Santa Ana del Chino land grant that was initially established in 1841. This area is home to numerous wildlife including rabbits, snakes (including rattlesnakes), coyotes, bobcats and an occasional deer. This area is now part of the City of Chino Hills public space.

Update 5/10: Thistle weeds have swallowed up the original cache so I've placed a temporary cache.

Update 4/09: First the bees, now muggles have forced a slight change in location.

Update 8/08: Bee cause of bees in the immediate cache area, I've moved the cache to a safer location. It's also closer to the main trail and much easier to get to. PLEASE watch out for SNAKES.

Initial cache contents included a tb, Kwak R. Jack, a SpongeBob jigsaw puzzle, a hot wheels car and a skeleton pin. This is the first geocache that I've placed. Enjoy!

Update 12/08. I've now placed nine caches in this area and they're all accessible from the 2 mile looped trail that begins at La Sierra. Although it's the same elevation gain whichever way you go on the loop, you'll avoid the steepest uphill by doing the loop counterclockwise (turn right onto the trail). Note that there's very little shade along the way so it's best to avoid mid-day in the summer unless you like to swelter.
