Greetings,

It has been a while since I first looked at this cache. I can't find any recent responses about maintaining this cache so for the time being it will be archived and removed from the active cache listings. We are no longer leaving caches stay disabled for extended periods of time.

Groundspeak and the geocaching community appreciate your contributions to geocaching and I hope to see this cache back in operation soon.

If you can get it back up and running in the next week or so contact me to get it re-listed. Otherwise plan to move it slightly and set up a new cache page.

[green]Most problems can be solved with good communication so reply back to the reviewer and we will do everything possible within the guidelines to get your cache published. It is best to give me as much information as possible instead of saying nothing at all. This will speed up the process and we can get your cache published. [/green]

Geocache Description:

The container is located outside, near the Bill Emerson Memorial Visitor Center and the Gate House for Lake Wappapello. It is handicapped accessible if one can negotiate a grass lawn.

The container is in the Visitor's Center and Gate House area south of the Dam at Wappapello Lake. It has a log book, pencil, some of my geocoins and round tuits (non trackable), a Lake Wappapello magnet, an antenna ball or rear view mirror ball, Rex travel bug, a Farkel game, a deck of cards some silly putty, a frog boxing light-up ball point and some frog keychains. It is handicapped accessible if one can negotiate a level, grass lawn. I received permission to place this cache from the Corps of Engineers.

Special events and activities are conducted at the Visitor's Center and Gate House, every weekend from Memorial Day through Labor Day. One will have to check in the Visitor's Center or see the posted sign for the Gate House tours. The Visitor's Center is normally open for visitors beginning May 1, open every day, Memorial Day through Labor Day, and open only on weekends through the end of October from 8 - 4:30 p.m. The Visitor's Center was renovated and upgraded this past fall and winter.

Volunteers and Corps personnel man the facility. So some stealth will be required, as it is an open area. There is a covered picnic shelter with restrooms next to the Gate House. It can be reserved for family reunions, etc. So at times there will not be many people, if any, around, and at other times it will be crawling with people. If the Corps is having a special event like a car show, antique tractor show, crafts, 4th of July fireworks, Army birthday celebration, it will be difficult to retrieve the cache unnoticed. There are handicapped accessible restrooms in the Visitor's Center.

From the parking lot, next to Hwy T, during the nesting season, a bald eagle nest can be seen below the dam using binoculars. The Corps personnel can point one in the correct direction or drive on the road below the dam and park in the spillway lot and look back to the tree line. During the nesting season at least one of the adults can be seen sitting on the nest and the other one in a nearby tree during daylight hours.
