Eagle's Point Geocoin Drop Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

LatonkaGal: This cache has gone missing too many times - anything big enough to be a coin drop in this muggley place is hard to keep active. Therefore, even though it is an older cache, it is time to say goodbye to it.

Geocache Description:

Eagle's Point Coin Drop for coins, geocoins, and very small travel bugs or path tags.

This is close to a scenic overlook at Lake Wappapello. It is not handicapped accessible and Eagle's Point is a picnic/day use area at the north end of the dam at Lake Wappapello. It is a small container, large enough for dollar coins. It has a log book, bring a pen or pencil, some of my round tuit signature pieces, Mardi Gras coins, a geo coin, and car wash token. I received permission from the Corps of Engineers to place this cache.

This makes the fifth incarnation of this geocache. Its been muggled 4 times previously. So, I've moved it. The geocache is no longer handicap accessible. Hopefully, between the move and camouflage, it won't be muggled again.

This area has a sand volleyball pit, a children's playground, a covered picnic shelter and several picnic tables scattered around in the shade. It has a handicapped accessible restroom and the covered picnic shelter is handicapped accessible. The covered picnic shelter can be reserved for family reunions, weddings, wedding receptions, etc.

During the summer months, this area is very busy on weekends. The picnic shelter is normally reserved both days by different groups. So stealth will be required. In the fall, the overlook is a wonderful place to observe the changing of the leaves, our foliage normally peaks from October 15 - 31. Bring your camera for taking photos from the overlook. Sundowns can be awe-inspiring--the area is also a great place to enjoy the fireworks on the 4th of July. Bring your binoculars for the overlook.

This area was renamed Eagle Point because we used to have bald eagles that soared in the wind currents that come down the Lake and are bounced up by this hill and the dam. We don't see many eagles soaring any more since the turkey vultures found it, but we do have a bald eagle nest below the dam that one can observe during the nesting season. If the visitor's center is open or if not, check at the management office, they can direct you where to look.
