Geocache Description:

This is a screw top camo plastic container hidden on Camp Branch Trail inside Breaks Interstate Park

This cache is located along Camp Branch Trail at the Breaks Interstate Park. The Trail head is accessible by Garden Hole Rd. a gated, narrow, gravel road just off St. Rt. 80. The gate opens at 8:00 A M and closes at 7:00 PM in the summer and 6:00 P M in winter. The road has pull-offs for stopping and passing. Camp Branch trail begins at one of the first wide spots at the trail sign. The road continues on to the river where it ends with turning area and parking. Do not attempt this road in snow or after a hard washing storm. Otherwise it is maintained for car traffic which is minimal except on Oct. week-ends when the controlled water released for the very popular white water rafting and kayaking brings lots of car, truck, and bus traffic.
If you go to the river and wish to fish, you must have a Virginia license and a trout stamp. These are available at the Park Visitor Center. The Camp Branch Trail provides an easier way to hike to the gorge. The trail will start off easy , but as you get closer to the river the trail will descend quickly making this a moderate hike. The trail follows an old road bed to the former location of a steam furnace used to make steam to operate the tools needed to help make the Tower Tunnel in the early 1900's.
