Geocache Description:

At this site on September 18, 1982 you'd have had a great view of the demolition of the Big Stack.thank you, Zen Panda, for taking this over for us - peeper has moved out of state.

"World's Tallest Smokestack" was built by the Anaconda company in 1908 atop the hill on the opposite shore of the river. The stack was 585 feet tall with an inside diameter of 50 feet. The stack stopped smoking in 1972 and the whole smelter shut down in 1980. The stack was demolished in 1982. It took two tries to completely demolish the sturdy construction. The stack was a landmark - visible for many miles on all sides.
The container holds a log book, pencil, first to find prize (a certificate to Baker Bob's Big Stack Bakery. At Baker Bob's note the stack demolition photos on west wall.)The smelter was mainly producing copper - so we've included bright shiny pennies as well.
