"Hippastugan", the cottage at "Mt Hippa", has its 50th birthday this year (2007). It was built in 1957 and has been a refuge for weary hikers and snowmobile riders ever since. It's got a nice view all the way to Sundsvall on a clear day. Now it has got a cache nearby as well.

There are several ways to reach the cache. The easiest (terrain rating 3) is by parking at N 62 47.950 E 017 27.970. From there a nice trail goes all the way to the cottage, about half a mile. Bring a picnic-basket and don't forget to sign the guestbook inside the cottage. If you are slightly more adventurous you can park halfway up the mountain at N 62 47.818 E 017 26.523. It is still about half a mile to walk but considerably steeper and there is not much of a trail to follow. The traditional way to "Hippastugan" is to walk from the road near the shore of Viskjö Lake at N 62 47.372 E 017 25.724. Unfortunately this nice trail has not been used much the last 10 or 15 years and is now really rough going, terrain rating probably about 4, and the distance almost two miles, uphill all the way.

The cache itself is a typical Tupperware type container with the usual contents. In the logbook, there is a part of the position for mystery cache GC149EH "Viksjö: Billberget". The rest can be found at the cache GC149BP "Viksjö: Utsikten".

The cache is not available during the winter months since the cache will be covered with lots of snow.

Hippastugan fyller 50 år i år (2007). Den byggdes som utflyktsmål för vandrare och snöskoteråkare 1957 och har fungerat som sådant sedan dess. Utsikten är vacker och man ser nästan ända till Sundsvall 4 mil bort på klara dagar. Nu finns där också en cache i närheten.

Det finns flera sätt att nå cachen. Enklast, och det är den vägen som terrängklassningen 3 avser, är att parkera vid N 62 47.950 E 017 27.970 och följa den utmärkta (i båda bemärkelserna) stigen en knapp kilometer upp till Hippastugan. Där avnjuter man gärna medhavd matsäck och skriver in sig i stugans gästbok. Jobbigare är att parkera halvvägs upp på berget vid N 62 47.818 E 017 26.523 och gå därifrån. Det är ungefär samma avstånd men mycket brantare och stig saknas. Den "riktiga" vägen att gå till Hippastugan är att starta vid den lilla stugbyn nere vid sjön vid ungefär N 62 47.372 E 017 25.724. Därifrån finns, eller fanns, en vacker stig hela vägen upp. Tyvärr har den använts dåligt det senaste decenniet och är nu bra jobbig att forcera, drygt 3 kilometer lång och terrängklassning nära 4.

Cachen är av vanlig plastburkstyp och innehåller det vanliga. I loggboken finns även halva positionen för mystery-cachen GC149EH "Viksjö: Billberget". Andra halvan finns i loggboken för cachen GC149BP "Viksjö: Utsikten".

Det här är en sommar-cache. Att hitta den under snö är nog inte lätt.
