Tudor Park Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

NYPaddleCacher: As I am doing very little geocaching locally anymore, rather than replace the unique "container" for the first stage I am archiving this one. It's a nice spot so hopefully someone will place a cache in the area now that the spot is open.

Geocache Description:

This two stage multicache will take you down a couple of trails in the William and Hannah Pew trail system in an area which used to be called Pewtown.

The William and Hannah Pew trail system (currently not complete) is a group of packed surface and mown grass trails that will connect the East Ithaca Recreation Way with Tudor Park and the Snyder Hill / Eastern Heights neighborhood. There will be a parking area (N 42 25.831, W076 27.682) for trail users, a bus pull-off and transit plaza with connections to the trail on Pine Tree Road, benches, and plantings. Tudor Park is a 2.30 acre neighborhood park in the Eastern Heights neighborhood that includes a play structure, benches, wood chipped nature trail, small lawn area, and plantings.

William PEW came from New Jersey into this county [Tompkins] with a caravan of settlers in 1801. He had a large family and they settled at what was called Pewtown. His five sons went to the front in the War of 1812 and all returned. The name was commonly used in early times because Pewtown was a landmark and meeting place for settlers in the vicinity. After the original settlers had passed away, Pewtown's meaning began to fade into the folklore of the county.

More information about Pewtown can be found Here.

The posted coordinates provide the location of the first stage. The location of the first stage will provide a very nice spot to sit and enter the final coordinates into your GPSr. It would be a wonderful spot to watch a sunset but don't stay too long. Even though the final cache is nearby searching for it after dark isn't recommended.

There are several places to park to begin your search. To experience more of the trail system park near (N 42 25.831, W076 27.682). There are also spots for a couple of vehicles on the neighborhood street near the posted coordinates. No hints are available as I would like to get a sense regarding how difficult this will be. Feel free to contact me through my profile if you want a hint.
