Geocache Description:

The cache is hidden in the very old and abandoned Yokum cemetery, one of 89 known cemeteries in Coles County.

The Yokum Cemetery has obviously been abandoned for quite some time. As best I was able to determine, the most recent burial occurred about 125 years ago. Much of the ground here is covered with a vigorous growth of a commonly introduced evergreen vine, Vinca. There is a good probability that you will see deer nearby. BE CAREFUL inasmuch as there is some old, rusty wire fencing around part of the cemetery and very close to the cache.

Although it is possible to drive within about 250 feet of this cemetery, I suggest that you park at the following coordinates: N 39° 28.941 W 088° 09.218. If you take the most direct route, you will be confronted by the “Mother of All Ravines” in Coles County and you will change the terrain rating to a 3 or 4. Instead, head west from the parking area and find and follow the wide path along the corn or soybean (depending on the year) field.

The cache is a ammo box that you will find in a usual place. Please replace the cache exactly as found.
