Geocache Description:

Your looking for an ammo can in a small park on the Noosa Trail network.

It won't take you long to find this, one as the are not to many places the hide an ammo tin. Its mostly here as this is the starting point for Cootharaba Views cache.

Kin Kin is typical of many country towns that named their roads and lanes after families who were early settlers in the area. Shepperson's Lane was the original access track to the Shepperson family home.

The creeks running though their property meant that not only was there a sure source of water but an abundant supply of red cedar, a valuable building and cabinet timber, so the Shepperson family was able to capitalise on the lucrative timber industry.

On a second family farm fronting the main Pomona - Kin Kin Road, the Shepperson family turned its roadside shed into a butcher shop,in 1910.

John Shepperson's two sons, Ken and Wally were both butchers, and Ken managed the shop. For a time the shop was leased to Linton Everett, another butcher who continued the business. Ken returned to manage his butcher shop that closed around 1967, when Ken retired to live in Brisbane.

Although no longer in use, the building still stands. As you drive towards Cooran, look for it on the left side about 500 metres from Kin Kin village.

In the early days of settlement, this section of road (ie the Kin Kin Pomona Rd), on both sides, had been planted with an avenue of pine trees, followed by Queensland Nut (Macadamia) trees.

Enterprising local children delighted in gathering the ripe nuts, and children of one family sold their harvest to a shopkeeper in Gympie.
