Before Pinbarren School was built on this site, the selectors' children in the area had to walk or ride their horses to Cooran School.
In 1904, F O'Rourke submitted a tender for felling and burning scrub on the proposed school site for 9 pound 10 shillings ($19.00). The school was opened as a Provisional School on 18th February 1905, with a social and a dance.
The first teacher was Miss Hattie Davis. In 1908 it was officially accepted as a State School, with Miss Margaret Grealy as teacher.
With better roads and faster transport, the school, like many other one-teacher schools, was closed in 1939 and Victor Depper was contracted to transport the children to Pomona State School.
From 1939 to 1942, Pomona School's Forestry Club planted the pine plantation on the site of Pinbarren School. The club consisted of students and parents from Pomona State School. Their aim was to provide future funds for Pomona State School. There were Hoop and Kauri Pines, Pinus Taeda, Silky Oak and Flooded Gum trees in the plantation.
During 1942, in the darkest period of World War Two, with patriotic intentions they named the plantation the 'Victory Plot'. When victory was assured, on 31 October 1944, it was renamed the 'Pomona Memorial Forestry Plot' in memory of the local servicemen who had lost their lives. It is believed that this was the first Memorial Forestry Plot in Queensland.
