BUG
BOX
Two Bug Boxes in one!
The first Bug Box's
main intention was to provide a fun
and easy place for travel BUGS to travel freely in and out of the
area or rest and recover from their long and exhausting journeys.
It was intended to do the same for
Geocoins, Pathtags and any other trackable geocaching item. We are
sadden to now have to recommend that NO TBs or
COINS BE LEFT IN THIS CACHE! There is a major TB/coin thief among us and
we hope not to contribute any other trackables to his/her
collection; especially in such vast numbers as has happened twice
from this location. With the trackables safety in mind we are
converting this to a no vacancy hotel -- regular cache only; still
worth finding.
The second or "other"
Bug Box is an actual live insect zoo with plenty of family fun and
activities. It's a great place for children and adults to
experience nature's creatures in a comfortable environment. The zoo
features exotic insects, arachnids, and crustaceans from around the
world. They also have a pet snake, turtles, frogs and toads, and
Sammy Salamander. The Desert Habitat area (one of our favorites)
features scorpions, tarantulas, stinging insects, and spiders. You
and the kids can also see giant millipedes, Madagascar hissing
cockroaches (yea - you read that right), huge walking sticks, and
beetles on display in the Forest Habitat area. Lots of other cool
animals too. Way cool!
Just like the zoo's
inhabitants, there's a lot packed into a small space. You might
enjoy yourself more should you reserve a little extra time to
visit. We did! If you decide to visit, please visit during their
hours of operation. The general public is welcome to visit Monday -
Saturday from 10a - 5p for a self-guided visit. There may be a
small admission fee.
Lastly, if you do
happen to see the zoo owners, feel free to let them know you
appreciate the opportunity to trade *bugs* in a safe
environment!
4/17/2009:
Due the theft of our original Buggy Bug
Box, we have taken the extra precaution of locking the ammo can in
place. Further safety measures are also under consideration but
since the colocated Bug Box has upped their security systems (say
cheese!) we're holding off. We're hoping the thief/thieves will now
"bug off"!
7/2/2009:
Please note, though the new security
measures make the container a touch more difficult to enter, it is
not necessary to remove the cache lid to access the contents.
Please refrain from doing so due to the effort required to
reassemble it and not doing so correctly allows for lots of rain
water! Thank you!
8/92009: It saddens us to have
to do this but due to the recent theft of all TBs and coins from
Buggy Bug Box we are asking that no TBs or coins be placed in this
cache. We will continue to monitor it as a regular cache but have
removed the "hotel" concept from it. It takes but one to ruin the
game for all.
FTF goes to MrsG2! Her first FTF! Job well
done!
