A visit to one of the less frequented parts of Gower.
Prissen's Tor (or Spiritsail Tor) is a distinctive limestone headland at the east end of Broughton Bay. In the north face of the tor are a pair of easily accessible small caves linked by a low passage. Animal remains found in the caves suggest that many thousands of years ago they served as hyenas' dens. Other finds include human remains, roman pottery and flint flakes.
Go straight through the village of Llanmadoc keeping the Church on your right and, after crossing a cattle grid, look for the small beach parking area at Lagadranta where an honesty box is situated (N51 36.932 W004 16.309). Please note that this car park is closed during winter months.
An alternative area can be found by turning right just before the church and parking in a field on your right about 50m down the hill where an honesty box is also situated (N51 37.125 W004 15.300). A walk from here offers spectacular views of Whiteford Burrows.
As access to the caves is not obvious unless you approach from the north-east, the co-ordinates of the top of the track leading down are N51 37.191 W004 16.460. From here head due north down the sandy track for 10m and continue along it as it levels out and turns west.
I intended to place a larger cache here but could not find a suitable location to ensure it would be free of muggles. Please ensure that it is well hidden when replacing.
