A fairly easy 2 part cache in a little known beauty spot (and I don't mean the sewage works!)
This is a fairly straightforward two-part cache, the coordinates being for the first part which is a black bison tube. Inside it you will find the coordinates for the final cache site which is a medium-sized clip-sided lunch box. Watch for muggles here as it is a few yards off the actual right of way and the area is used by members of the private fishing club. Claiming to have lost the path is very credible if you get spotted! I wanted to get right next to the building but it was too jungle-like!
The cache got its name from the building near the final location. This was where my father and his family used to take their holidays from Lincoln during the 1930s and 40s. The cottage is still maintained a little and is, I think, used as a store by the local private fishing club who use the nearby lakes. I have been walking here with my dad since I was an infant and now bring my own kids although it is seriously overgrown these days. Even as recently as ten years ago the lawn was being cut and the yew hedge trimmed but that has all stopped now. The boathouse in the wood has almost collapsed now as have the old seats made from upturned boats. It's hard to believe that my dad's earliest memory is of his aunt doing backstroke in the lake, circa 1934 -not to be recommended now!
If you feel like fighting your way through there is a lovely circular walk to be had although not all on rights of way. Keeping the lake on your right continue to the disused Louth-Bardney railway line. Turn right along the line and go as far as you can before you reach a gate with a sign. Turn right again down the slope and right again at the bottom back onto the right of way. Follow this round the other lake, back to the cache site and then back to where you started -have fun, but this is best attempted out of the growing season unless you enjoy getting seriously nettled!
