Mallala Motor Sport Park
Originally an RAAF training airfield during World War Two, it was converted to a racetrack in 1960, but was closed down in 1971 when all motor racing in South Australia moved to AIR at Virginia. Over a period of 10 years, local enthusiast and racer, Clem Smith purchased the land and developed the disused circuit. On June 27, 1982 the circuit re-opened and has continued to operate in close co-operation with the Sporting Car Club of SA.
The circuit has seen some great occasions, from the golden years when Norm Beechey, Allen Moffat, Bob Jane and Clem Smith tore up the tarmac, to more recent times when 35,000 people come through the gates to see Peter Brock in action for the last time in the Shell Australia Touring Car Championship.
