'D' for Douglas Fir (Otago) Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Growly Bear: As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

Advisable to park at same coordinates as Troll House in Flagstaff Creek recommends. Walk along the logging track roadway to establish your signal finding some open area. From there if you reach the creek you have gone too far! The terrain was easy and the pathways and roads were formed. You do not need to go off the beaten track. HOWEVER SOME TREES HAVE BEEN FELLED AND OCCLUDE THE PATH YOU CAN CLAMBER OVER THEM IF YOU ARE ABLE BODIED. Circa 500 meters from the parking

The next in our alphabet cache trail, The letters D are contained within this cache. Please do not take a letter unless you are wishing to collect the series, there are other trades contained within for those not collecting.

The pathway is formed and this cache site offers an opportunity to learn about the different trees that make up the Three Mile Hill Forest. HOWEVER SOME TREES HAVE BEEN FELLED/FALLEN AND OCCLUDE THE PATH
BUT YOU CAN CLAMBER OVER THEM IF YOU ARE ABLE BODIED.

Each specimen in this cache site have been named with a plaque. As the title suggests this is the tree to find! This cache is a regular 3 litre camo painted snaplock with a few trades contained at the time of placing. There is a convenient bench nearby to rest on. Number 9 also guides you that your location is within a few metres. Accuracy is 7 meters. Carry on round to continue the loop for a pleasant walk or follow the GPS to Troll House (well recommended) This is a working forest so you need to go on weekends, holidays and out of normal working hours (after 6pm). This is also a public right of way and dogs are allowed. All in all a nice walk with interesting flora and fauna.
