Wayfarer's Walk is a long distance path which starts at Inkpen
Beacon, this is also an end point of The Test Way. It is close to
the site of Combe Gibbet and follows a meandering route to
Emsworth, some 70 miles distant. The path starts in Berkshire, but
most of it is in the county of Hampshire. The path runs close to
the highest points in both Berkshire and Hampshire as witnessed by
the nearby trig points. Parts of the walk can get muddy and deeply
rutted whereas other parts are an easier terrain. I hope you enjoy
the wonderful views from this scenic path.
Please note that none of the caches require that you climb over
fences other than by stiles. Also be aware of any electrified
fences.
Wayfarer's walk starts a little bit further to the West of this
point, close to Combe Gibbet and a longbarrow. As there is already
a cache at that location, I have put my first Wayfarer's Walk cache
here.
This cache is located close to the trig point which, at 974 feet
ASL is the highest point in Berkshire. In fact it is the highest
point in Southeast England. You are standing in the middle of the
site of an Iron Age hill fort.
This particular spot is popular with radio amateurs who take
advantage of the high location to make contacts at long distances.
The BBC has been known to use this point as a temporary relay point
for it's outside broadcasts.
Needless to say, the views from here are stunning.
