Geocache Description:

Cache is along ridge top path. Can be linked in a circular walk appox 1 hr walking time or an out and back of 30m. Altitude less than 150m so good year 'round visit. Limestone track can be slippery in wet and the ascents need care (although my 5 year olds manage them fine). Parking along road outside school or church in Wtherslack to begin ascent on footpath opposite church.

Small lunchbox style cache. Clear. Current contents are notebook, pencil, small laminated map of witherslack and our Dean Barwick sheep - this contains a travel bug with instructions.

UPDATE: A few people have commented that the cache should not be located in a dry stone wall. Can I just reassure everyone that:

1 - The cache is located in an existing hole in the wall, these gaps in dry stone walls are known as 'smoots' or 'bolt holes' and allow wildlife to move freely whilst still controlling livestock (as the hole is too small for them). We have no qualms with using the hole for our cache as it is located next to a permanent ungated 8 foot gap in the wall used by walkers, logging vehicles and all manner of wildlife.

2 - The cache is installed with full permission of the landowner.

3 - The wall is no longer used or maintained as a boundary. No animals are grazed on this part of the hill (hence no gate and just a permanent open gateway)

4 - As a forest school and John Muir award provider our curriculum has nature at its heart, our children learn all about the wonders of nature, conservation, discovery and exploration. They certainly know better than to tear down walls and understand the value and operation of rural communities.

Cheers!
