Short easy walk from parking lot. A small amount of up and down on a dirt trail. Good one for kids. If there is more than a few inches of snow, the cache may not be visible.
U.S.S. MONITOR If you know your Civil War history, you’ll recognize the scene from the cache immediately. If the name is unfamiliar, you can google it for a picture. The cache is near the Copper Ridge medical center off W. Silver Lake Rd. in Traverse City. As you enter stay to the right of building D and park in the far lot below the uncompleted concrete walls. Parking coordinates are N 44 44.845, W 085 39.289.At the end of the lot is a 3-way trail junction. Take the narrow uphill trail with exposed tree roots. After a short walk there is another junction. Stay to the right and you are almost there. The cache is a plastic jar with screw-on lid. From up here you will have a fine view of the battle if the Merrimack should appear. The original cache was stolen by marauding muggles, so we have relocated it. Use the same coordinates and when you reach that spot on the trail, start searching uphill.
