Een kleine Multi-Stage Cache van ca 2,5 km rond 'Landgoed Schothorst' in Amersfoort.

Pink Floyd.

DSOTM, de afkorting van het legendarische Pink Floyd album, the Dark Side of the Moon uit 1973. Ik ben een grote fan van Pink Floyd (en de afzonderlijke bandleden) en aangezien er al vele caches met de naam van dit album zijn, is er dit keer de afkorting gebruikt. Pink Floyd is in 1967 opgericht en heeft verschillende albums uitgebracht (zie Discografie). Een van die albums is the Dark Side of the Moon, de afbeelding op hoes van het album heeft me er toe gebracht om deze Multi-Stage Cache uit te zetten.

Het is een kleine Multi-Stage Cache met een lengte van ca. 2,5 km die zich rond 'Landgoed Schothorst' afspeelt. De totale route zal ca. 1 uur in beslag nemen. De te zoeken punten bevinden zich in de buurt van 'Landgoed Schothorst' zelf, de cache is de gehele dag beschikbaar.

Een bezoek aan het landgoed kan natuurlijk wel. Houd daarbij rekening met de aangegeven toegangstijden. Het park is niet toegankelijk voor honden, de cache is wel gewoon te doen!

In het park bevindt zich een reconstructie van een vroegmiddeleeuwse boerderij naar een voorbeeld van de boerderijen uit de Dorestad opgravingen bij Wijk bij Duurstede. De boerderij is in 1987 gebouwd door de gemeente Amersfoort (het CNME) in samenwerking met de Rijksdienst voor Oudheidkundig Bodemonderzoek (ROB) en het museum Flehite. Om de boerderij heen werden akkers en moestuinen en een open vuurplaats aangelegd. De tijdsperiode waarop de nadruk ligt is de tijd tussen 700 en 900 na Christus.

Maar nu snel naar de Geo Cache. Pink Floyd heeft door de jaren heen een groot aantal albums gemaakt, hieronder staat het overzicht van de studio albums van het jaar van oprichting 1967 tot 2007. Natuurlijk zijn er veel meer albums uitgebracht, maar dat zijn veelal compilatie albums, soundtracks en live albums. Tijdens deze cache gaan we gebruik maken van de studio albums van Pink Floyd.

Startpunt.

Kom je lopend. Dan woon je waarschijnlijk dichtbij.

Kom je met het openbaar vervoer. Vanaf treinstation Amersfoort, neem je stadsbus 5 (richting Zielhorst) en stap uit bij de halte 'Keetje de Rieterf' (is in de wijk Schothorst) vanaf daar is het nog 5 minuten lopen. De start van de cache is ook ca. 15 minuten lopen vanaf treinstation Amersfoort Schothorst.

Kom je op de fiets. Dan kun je eenvoudig bij de sportvelden je fiets kwijt, maar de route is ook goed op de fiets te doen. Als je met de fiets een bezoek wilt brengen aan het 'Landgoed Schothorst', plaats dan je fiets op de aangegeven plaats.

Kom je met de auto. Parkeer de auto op de coördinaten boven aan de pagina. Houd er rekening mee dat je het laatste stuk van de weg over een fietspad rijdt (dit is toegestaan!). Op zaterdagen en zondagen kan het zijn dat de parkeerplaats door de bezoekers aan de sportvelden vol is. Daarom nog een alternatieve plek om de auto kwijt te raken, parkeer de auto in de omgeving van N52° 10.825 E005° 23.665. De auto staat dan in een woonwijk.

De opdracht en de route.

Onderweg zul je een drietal codes moeten vinden. Deze codes spelen een cruciale rol in het vinden van de eindlocatie. De locatie van de drie codes is niet gegeven en zal onderweg moeten worden berekend.

Ga naar DSOTM01 - N52° 10.625 E005° 23.413

Hier vind je op een lantaarnpaal twee borden boven elkaar. Het nummer links onder op het bovenste bord, gevolgd door het nummer op het onderste bord is (P) = _ _ _. Verder staan op de lantaarnpaal twee nummers. Het bovenste nummer is niet duidelijk leesbaar, maar noteer het Onderste nummer (I) = _ _ _. Hoe groot is de afstand van Breda naar Nieuweschans (in km) die wordt genoemd op het bord (N) = _ _ _.

Ga naar DSOTM02 - N52° 10.634 E005° 23.119

Hier vind je een lantaarnpaal met gele bordjes met blauw opschrift en een blauw bord met wit opschrift. Op het blauwe bord met het witte opschrift staan twee getallen. Laat het koppelstreepje weg en neem de vier cijfers over (K) = _ _ _ _.
Gebruik de gegevens van PINK om de volgende coördinaat te berekenen.

Ga naar DSOTM03 - N52° 10.(471 – P + I – N + K) E005° 23.0(1047 – K + N + I - P)

Op deze plek staat het eerste bankje. Bij dat bankje moet je zoeken naar een code. Deze is beter verstopt dan je misschien denkt. Noteer de code en zorg dat de code op dezelfde manier is verstopt als je hem hebt gevonden.
De code komt overeen met een getal welke je kunt vinden in de beschrijving van deze cache. Bereken het getal (F) door het aantal letters van de tekst te tellen dat behoort bij de code.

Code DSOTM03: _______ (F) = _____

Rechts van het bankje waar je nu zit, staat een lantaarnpaal. Op die lantaarnpaal staat wederom een nummer. Bovenste nummer (L) = _ _ _ en Onderste nummer (O) = _ _ _.
Gebruik de gegevens van FLO om de volgende coördinaat te berekenen.

Ga naar DSOTM04 - N52° 10.(83 + F + L) E005° 23.(O – 849)

Op deze plek staat een lantaarnpaal. Bij die paal moet je wederom zoeken naar een code. De code is op een andere wijze verstopt als bij het eerste bankje. Noteer de code.

De code komt overeen met een getal welke je kunt vinden in de beschrijving van deze cache. Bereken het getal (Y) door alle letters van tekst behorende bij de code op te tellen volgens (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.).

Gebruik de gegevens van Y om de volgende coördinaat te berekenen.

Ga naar DSOTM05 - N52° 10.(893 – Y) E005° 23.(286 + Y)

Op deze plek staat een zwart paaltje. Opnieuw moet je zoeken naar een code. Noteer de code.
De code komt overeen met een getal welke je kunt vinden in de beschrijving van deze cache. Bereken het getal (D) door het aantal letters van het bij de code behorende tekst te vermenigvuldigen met 7. Bereken nu de coördinaat van de eindlocatie.

Gebruik de gegevens van PINK FLOYD om de coördinaten voor het prisma te berekenen.

We nemen aan dat de lichtstraal vanuit het zuidwesten invalt en in het noordoosten uitbreekt in de richting van het oosten. In dit specifieke geval vindt de breking van het licht precies in het midden van het prisma plaats. Construeer nu met de berekende coördinaten het prisma, als je weet waar de breking plaats vindt, dan weet je de plek waar de cache moet liggen.

Het vinden van de Stash.

Ga voorzichtig te werk. Probeer net als bij alle andere caches ongezien te loggen en dek de cache na vinden weer zorgvuldig af.

Short description.

A small Multi-Stage Cache of about 2,5 km around 'Landgoed Schothorst' in Amersfoort.

Pink Floyd.

DSOTM, the abbreviation of the legendary Pink Floyd album, the Dark Side of the Moon from 1973. I'm a big fan of Pink Floyd (and it's band members) since there are already a lot of caches carrying the name of this album I've used the abbreviation for a change. Pink Floyd is founded in 1967 and produced several albums (see Discography). One of these albums is the Dark Side of the Moon, the picture on the cover of this album inspired me to create this Multi-Stage Cache.

It is a small Multi-Stage Cache of about 2,5 km around 'Landgoed Schothorst' in Amersfoort. The complete route will take about one hour. The multi-stage points can be found in the area of 'Landgoed Schothorst' itself. The cache is available all day long.

A visit to the 'landgoed Schothorst' is of course possible. Make sure to watch for the opening times. Dogs are not allowed in the park, but the cache can normally be found.

Inside the park you can find a reconstruction of an early medieval farmhouse originated from the farm in 'Dorestad' found during excavations near 'Wijk Bij Duurstede'. The farm is reconstructed/build in 1987, by the city of Amersfoort in cooperation with 'Rijksdienst voor Oudheidkundig Bodemonderzoek (ROB)' and the museum 'Flehite'. Surrounding the farm, farmland, vegetable gardens and an open fire place were constructed. The farm and surrounding area describe the time period between 700 and 900 AD.

But now quickly onto the Geo Cache. Pink Floyd created throughout the years lots of musical albums, in the section Discography you can find an overview of the studio albums produced from foundation in 1967 until 2007. Of course you can think of many more albums, but those are compilation albums, soundtracks and live albums. During this Geo Cache we are going to use the studio albums of Pink Floyd.

Starting Point.

If you came Walking.Then you probably live nearby.

Using the Public Transport. From train station Amersfoort, take the city bus 5 (direction Zielhorst) and exit the bus at bus stop 'Keetje de Rieterf' (is in the district Schothorst) from there is still is a 5 minute walk. You can also reach the starting point by a 15 minute walk from train station Amersfoort Schothorst.

Travelling by Bicycle. Park your bike near the sporting area, but you can also use the bike to ride the route. If you want to visit the 'Landgoed Schothorst', place your bike in the indicated parking places.

Travelling by Car. Park your car at the coordinates given at the top of this page. Keep in mind that the last part of the road towards the parking area you are driving on a cycling lane (this is allowed). On Saturdays and Sundays it might be that the parking area is busy (with sports fans). Therefore an alternative parking area is given, park your car near the following coordinate N52° 10.825 E005° 23.665. The car is then parked in the district Zielhorst.

A long the way you will have to find three codes. These three codes play a crucial role in finding the location of the stash. The location of the three codes is not given and you will have to calculate the location.

Go To DSOTM01 - N52° 10.625 E005° 23.413

Here you will find two Signs and a Lamppost. Write down the number in the lower left corner on the Sign above, followed by the number on the lower Sign (P) = _ _ _ What are the numbers on the lamppost. The top number we don't need, what is the number beneath (I) = _ _ _. What is the distance from 'Breda' to 'Nieuweschans' (in km) as being mentioned on the sign (N) = _ _ _.

Go ToDSOTM02 - N52° 10.634 E005° 23.119

Here you will find a Post with yellow signs (with blue engravement) and one blue sign (with white engravement). On the blue sign two numbers are mentioned. Remove the - and use the four numbers (K) = _ _ _ _.
Use the information from PINK to calculate the next coordinate.

Go To DSOTM03 - N52° 10.(471 – P + I – N + K) E005° 23.0(1047 – K + N + I - P)

At this coordinate the first bench is located. At that bench you need to search for a code. This code is hidden better than you might expect. Write down the code and hide the code in the same way as you found it.
The code matches a number that is mentioned in the description of this Geo Cache. Calculate the number (F) by counting the letters of the text belonging to the code.

Code DSOTM03: _______ (F) = _____

Sitting on the bench, on the right hand side, you see a lamppost. On that lamppost you will find again two numbers. Top number (L) = _ _ _ and the number beneath (O) = _ _ _.
Use the information from FLO to calculate the next coordinate.

Go To DSOTM04 - N52° 10.(83 + F + L) E005° 23.(O – 849)

At this coordinate you'll find a lamppost. Again you have to search for a code. The code is hidden in a different way. Write down the code.
The code matches a number that is mentioned in the description of this Geo Cache. Calculate the number (Y) by adding all the letters of the text belonging to the code according to the principle of (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc.).

Use the information from Y to calculate the next coordinate.

At this coordinate you'll find a black pole. Again you have to search for a code. Write down the code.
The code matches a number that is mentioned in the description of this Geo Cache. Calculate the number (D) by counting the letters of the text belonging to the code and multiplying it with 7. Perhaps now it is best to sit down and start working on the finding of the stash location.

We assume that the ray of light enters from the South West and escapes in the North East, in the direction of the East. In this specific case the light refracts exactly in the middle of the prism. Now construct the prism with the given coordinates, and if you know where the light refracts, you know where to find the cache.
