Luther Mitchell was a homesteader and was killed near Callaway, Nebraska along with Ami Ketchum in 1878. The two were killed by a wealthy cattleman, I.P. "Print" Olive. Their bodies were partially burned after having been hanged and shot. Mitchell was buried at the cemetery near his former home. At first it was beleived that Mitchell was the "bad guy" but was later proved innocent. This was during the times of the cattleman wars in Nebraska and is a piece of history little known. The grave is located about 30 feet southeast of the cache.
