Geocache Description:

Completely handicap friendly. This cache is hidden inside a hollowed-out book at the Davison Genesee District Library...but you'll have to do a little research before going to the library to find out which book it is! You will not find this book by walking around as there are way too many books.

This cache was patterned after Gold and Iron by CalvinRTVP. I have at this time found over 70 caches and thought that this was one of the most memorable. I found this cache down in Virginia and thought that it would be nice to place one similar to Gold and Iron in my home town of Davison, MI. Gold and Iron was patterned after the "Occoquan Ramble" by The CacheRats who in turn patterned their hunt after the "Black Mountain Ramble" by Wanderlust and Laughing Moon. It is designed as a fun cache for those who may be “mild weather” cachers and for those who don't have a lot of mobility. This is not a difficult cache and the whole family can participate (young ones may even learn a bit about how the library works). The goal is to fill in the blanks below so that you can find a book in the Davison Branch of the Genesee District Library. You are looking for a book by its call number. Don't ask the librarian because they will not know what you are looking for (that has been there instruction and they are in on this). Before you go to the library you have to find out some things about Davison. To do this you will start at the west end of town on Davison (Flint) Road at the Coordinates 43°02.067’N 83°31.649’W It is easiest to park in a spot at one of the businesses (many have parking spots available to the east) and walk up to the sign to see it. Here you will discover when Davison was founded. You will now put that number into the blanks below. Heading east there is another sign only a few yards from the Davison sign. On it there is a commemoration of the wrestling team. This will describe the years that the wrestling team where state champs. You will add the first few years to this spaces provided below. As you walk a few more yards to the east you will find a commemoration of an Olympic hockey player. Add this year to the formula. This hockey player also was on the Stanley cup winning team what year? You will add this year to the formula. The first digit of the last name will be the call letter at the end of the book. This you can place in its spot now. You can park your car at the library because I will now take you on a walk through the oldest part of our town. The library is located at 43°02.041’ N 83°30.970’W There you will gather numbers off of street signs and such. You will not have to go into any stores or make any purchases to find this cache. What you will find is a nice little town that you can get around in with a wheel chair if need be. Walk to the next set of coordinates by taking the first street to the west of you. It is named after a character in a play. Now you must walk to the following coordinates. 43°01.860’ N 83°30.973’W. Standing at this establishment face north. In front of you will be my sister’s favorite place in Davison to eat. Facing north look up you will see three numbers above the door on this establishment (You won’t see this from the car). Add this number to the formula. Now go west young person (or old person) until you are at the road that you walked in on. Walking north and staying on the same side of the street you will find an Bear Soup Deli. Now you must look across the street. You will find a place that sells very tasty items. On this building you will find a sign that says when the establishment was founded. Add this number to the formula. The sign is golden and easy to see. You are almost there now. Walk north. You will find the library off to the east a bit. You should have the following numbers When Davison was founded -- -- -- -A- What years the wrestling team was state champs -- -- -- -B- -- -- -- -C- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Year of the Olympic Hockey player -- -- -- -D- What is the number above the food establishment my sister likes? -- -E- -- What year was the business on the west side of the street established (Gold sign)? -- -- -F- -- put the numbers here -- -- -- -- . -- -- -- last digit is the first letter of the Hockey players last name Using the numbers that correspond to the letters from the above clues place them in the following order to come up with the call number B C A F . D E Now you have the call number for the book by putting the numbers in the appropriate spaces, however, the library is only available during these times Mon-Thu: 9am-9pm Fri-Sat: 9am-5pm Sunday: 12pm-6pm This is where the final cache is stored. By the way if you are a Genesee patron then you might find it interesting to look at the videos and books in our library. They have a huge number of books and a lot of great video movies etc. The library is one of my favorite places to go and when you get there you will understand why. Another thing that you can do while you are at the library is to log your cache from there. If you are a library patron you can use there internet for free (as long as there is a terminal open or if you have a wireless laptop). Congratulations to Cyberdust for the first to find. Apparently the book was out of place when they found it. Good luck.
